Don't you just love the High Tea that the big hotels do? Fun, and delicious! London is such a great walk around city - Trafalgar Square, Covent Garden, Leiscester Square - all of it. And I love how you can nip into little sandwich shops, grab a sandwich and hit the streets again!

Thanks for reading Melissa. I don't know what type of use you are planning on/currently using the Porter 46 for so I can only comment on personal experience. I use the bag as a travel bag and not for backpacking. I only carry around clothes in the bag plus a small toiletry bag, a small camera and an iPad and/or MacBook Air and occasionally a second pair of shoes (other than the ones I am wearing) therefor keeping things pretty lightweight. I have been using it for years and I have not found it to be uncomfortable or to experience the issue you descried. I have carried it on my back through airports, on public transit, and through cities. I even once put my ski boots in the bag plus clothing and carried it around airports on a ski trip (I don't know if I regularly would want to carry that much weight, but it was manageable that one time). It sounds like you will be carrying a little more weight in your pack than I am. Good luck in your bag search.

I was in love with the Porter 46 until I tried it on the other day. I loaded it down with some weight sacks they had at the store (probably more weight than I would carry), and wore it around for about an hour. After the first beautiful half hour, the foam in the back suddenly "broke in" and bent, forming a lump at the base of my back. Instantly, the bag was MUCH less comfortable to carry, the weight would not go to the hip belt, etc. It made me decide I want a bag with a frame, like the Osprey Farpoint 40. Have you noticed a similar thing happening? How is the bag once it's worn in?

I agree with the customs lady! You do have quite the itinerary! But then....I know how you roll!

Right about now you should be well up into Grasmere and hopefully conquering the left side of the road!

Have fun!
