Loving Husband

The “new” Mr. and Mrs. …A little about ourselves.

HOW WE MET

According to Elizabeth, we met through our mutual friends “Mac” and “Dell”. In reality, (being that it is the 21st century) we met on the dating website, Match.com. After corresponding through e-mail, instant messaging, and a few phone calls we decided to meet in person.

We met out on the rocks in front of George’s (a clam-shack and Rhode Island institution) in Narragansett, Rhode Island. My first glimpse of Elizabeth in person was her standing on the rocks, with the water glistening from the setting sun behind her. It was picture perfect.

We spent the next couple of hours sitting on the rocks talking, laughing, and getting to know each other. After the sun started to set, we forced ourselves into the restaurant to get a bite to eat. I went home that night feeling really good about Elizabeth. I had a feeling we’d be seeing more of each other very soon.

WHEN WE GOT ENGAGED – August 2, 2006

HOW IT HAPPENED

His Version: I decided to take Elizabeth to the spot where we first met to celebrate our anniversary. We had a lovely dinner sitting on the upper deck of George’s with a table overlooking the inlet and the setting sun. After enjoying our chowda, clam cakes, margaritas, and a solo guitar player covering Jimmy Buffett songs, we made our way out to the rocks to sit and relax and digest. While we were sitting there I moved myself in front of Elizabeth and knelt on the boulder below her. I started to tell her how much she meant to me and how much I enjoyed being with her during the past year. I then pulled the ring out of my pocket (not dropping it into the rocks below) and asked “Elizabeth, will you marry me?” She was taken back and as if on cue, tears of joy started flowing from her eyes. After what seemed like an eternity, she said that all important “Yes, I will marry you!” At that point I slipped the ring on her finger and became the luckiest and happiest guy on Earth.

Her Version: I thought it was sweet and thoughtful of Sean to take me to the place where we first met , but did not expect anything more. After all, he had presented me with a lovely inflatable travel pillow earlier in the week!

The night was gorgeous. After a summer thunderstorm, the clouds had parted, leaving us with a beautiful sunset. After eating chowder and clamcakes on the deck, we moved down to the rocks below to watch the ferries and fishing boats come in. All of a sudden, Sean stood up and knelt in front of me. I didn’t realize what was going on until he said, “Will you marry me?” and opened the ring box. I sat there stunned, tears running down my face, as he panicked and told me, “Don’t worry, I asked your father!” After regaining my breath, I said “Yes!”
